Reddit is absolutely notorious for the criticism of in-betweens. It's infuriating. If you try to counter the narrative you get piled on by people claiming you have no idea what you're talking about.
I’d even argue that being able to pinpoint several awkward in-betweens in an anime doesn’t by any means make it qualify as “bad animation”. the entire idea of even looking at in-betweens is stupid. animation is fundamentally about assembling different frames to create the illusion of motion. as a viewer your assessment is only valid if you’re considering exclusively what’s presented to you, that is each sequence as a whole. for instance we can all agree that it would be ridiculous to criticize a movie based on scenes that didn’t make it to the final cut. tbh it should really only be a problem if the big picture appears unintentionally unnatural.
oh i see, so you meant like multiple shitty in-betweens within the same sequence?
Barely any different from pausing a live action scene and screeching about how blurry it is
I think it's an issue with how they're edited like everything else to be slick but shallow with a lot of flash. The speed of the cuts and the constant need for background video definitely don't help. They just kinda' blend in to the morass of YouTube content that needs to get clicks and entertain for 20 minutes, even if they have things worth remembering they're registered as disposable content by the mind.
