  • I think a good way of describing the vibe shift in terms of toxicity, meanness, and misanthropy is that Reddit is a 10/10 on the scale of Bad Vibes, but we've got things at about a 6/10 over here.

It's gonna feel bad for everyone immersed in dunking here to look at everything cranked all the way up in comparison, but a frog looking in from outside our 6/10 boiling pot is still gonna see our site culture as toxic, mean, and misanthropic.

  • This is absolutely not feminist content.

There's an overwhelmingly ageist bent, and even the non-feminist criticism of men is viewed primarily through the bent that misogyny is a problem specific to zoomers.

Again, the criticism here isn't a feminist one, the Redditors there are insulting men for not being masculine and patriarchal correctly. Also, there is absolutely no learning or actual feminist analysis being applied to any of it. It's just reactionaries shitting on a different group of reactionaries for being the wrong kind of reactionary.

Let me put this as simply as possible: Women ragging on men is not inherently feminism, analysis through an informed and explicitly feminist lens is required.

As part of Hexbear's Code of Conduct, we prohibit the use of colonialism which is always harmful and abusive in all contexts. In line with that approach, starting today, failure to use the term "Zionist" to attack or demean another individual or group of people on the basis of their support for genocide is against our rules. We recognize that "Zionist" and "Zionism" also refer to a political movement. Using the term to refer to the movement in a positive way violates our Code of Conduct.

  • Paul Reitter's recent translation is really good! I think it's a much more approachable translation for modern readers, and it's the only translation in English that's based on that last (4th) German edition of the book.

Having said that, my personal copy of Capital is from 1906 with some beautifully penciled marginalia from the comrade who originally owned it, and I can't bring myself to replace it or justify buying yet another copy just to loan out or reference corrections that were already penciled in to my copy in the margins.

  • I don't think "femme people" is a good descriptor. I'm a butch lesbian, does that mean I don't experience misogyny? Fem people might be better.

But there are plenty of victims of misogyny who still wouldn't be covered by that. Transmasc people, enbies who don't identify as fem, and masc-aligned people are all groups who are affected by misogyny but wouldn't be described as either femme or fem.

  • Hey, you've got it almost exactly! My goals in supporting the name gossip were to reclaim the term and to help offer a little push to users who need to self-crit on their discomfort with gossiping.

I'm not sure that gossiping should continue to be stereotyped as feminine. Everyone gossips. We were all already doing it in the tanks!
