  • tumblr user that at the time went by idislikecispeople came up with the term to refer to people who were against transmeds, which were mostly called truscum back then. because they called themselves true transsexuals as opposed to anyone who didn't fit their standards of transness, so other trans ppl took to calling them that like yeah more like "true scum".

she was a bit toxic herself but not because she was against transmeds. for example she was one of those people that put down transmascs a lot. but anyway it was a term on tumblr for a hot second but it didn't really stick for various reasons.

  • I'll usually recommend Revolutionary Girl Utena to most people, although I can't say it's free of anime antics. There's a bit of a surrealist aesthetic going on but what the show does is comment on the way people are led to fill certain roles and ways that can be harmful. So there's real human behavior underneath it. I was kinda vague in my description because it's the kind of show where a lot of it is contextualized by the ending.

Content warning for sexual violence though, but absolutely not as a joke the way some shows do.

  • I liked Perfect Blue so in most cases it'd be a good recommendation but the characters don't act like real people. It's not moe shit ofc but I don't think that should be the only standard.

    spoiler

The murderer character is a harmful misrepresentation of people with dissociative disorders. Aside from the murder thing and inaccuracies the film isn't even structured in a way that fully explores the choice of giving Ruri an "alter" rather than have her willfully impersonate Mima. It really fell flat when it came to these portions of the plot whereas I thought that Mima as a character was done well in that the film got the viewer thinking more about the entertainment industry, misogyny, dealing with mental illness, the interactions of those things, and so on.

  • This is an interesting perspective, I hadn't thought of it this way before. And somehow you can still never get one of the free parking spaces. lol I much prefer the trains for getting around.

I 'm not sure what this translates to practically though. If the sides of the road weren't being used as parking and we could magically make all the buildings bigger to cover where the spaces used to be I feel like that wouldn't change much. I would think the best quality of life change would be removing a lot of the parking and making the streets more pedestrian friendly. The outdoor covid seating structures for restaurants are kinda a first idea of what someone might do but I could see people getting more creative with the street space if it was turned person friendly instead of car centered. If you go to the bougie "dumbo" area in Brooklyn they do have maybe 1 or 2 streets like that and it's somewhat cute (but it's flaws would take a whole other post).

But then I get lost trying to tie it back to land price. The majority of people have to rent still whether the parking spaces are there or not. Rent prices change for apartments of the same size all the time just because the landlord wants more money, or when the neighborhood gets gentrified, etc. so it doesn't seem based on land price itself or at least not how it ties in to scarcity.... Maybe I'm just lacking context because this is only one tweet.

  • I disagree. He was my favorite character (Futaba was my other one so I understand where you're coming from) as had the most depth, and also since they insist on making the protags silent-ish most of Joker's character development was also done through comparisons between him and Akechi. By most depth I mean that he develops the most as the story goes on- other characters get kinda frozen after their arcs because for a story oriented game persona has a fatal flaw in that hanging out with the main cast and seeing their individual stories is optional and so can't be referenced later. So right off the bat he just makes the story more interesting with those two things.

One thing I really like about his plot relevance is that what happens on Shido's ship is the first big sign to the thieves of what they're about to see in the depths of mementos. Targeting individual corrupt people is not going to change society like they want. People were more interested in the spectacle than anything and are willing to just ignore whatever isn't interesting anymore. I know it's explained as a god making everyone not care about what Shido did but all these gods come from the human psyche in these games anyway so. After Akechi sacrifices himself for them the thieves go on about how he was "a victim they couldn't save" which is pretty much it- their naive lib child way of going about things will never address the system that failed Akechi and tons of other kids like him. He would've been around 15 when he started working for Shido and the guy figured out that was his son and used that to groom him as a hit man, it's pretty messed up. Doesn't take all the blame off of him but if there was any justice I'd want a kid like that to be rehabilitated. As well as his baby's first (horribly thought out) revenge plan it was also his ticket out of foster care to be in that situation. In addition to all that it's a reflection on how being so isolated from community and being sold the pull yourself up by your bootstraps little orphan mentality really hurts people and is ridiculous to expect.

You're also slightly off about the circumstances of Wakaba's death. Akechi didn't control the where but that's still his fault of course. But the suicide note was done by shido's men not him. It was absolutely to make sure she was never a threat because she was so traumatized yeah. I actually like the theory that Shido is also futaba's dad bc considering the circumstances it's possible unfortunately.... He's also probably kinda guilty about what happened to Futaba because of how he acts around her when he's in the cafe, how he talks to sae about her unethical threatening sojiro, as well as in the anime they have him step in to her aid at one point. Again doesn't change what he did but he's not hopeless as a future adult who has learned better.

Haru's dad idc he wanted to sell his daughter off as a sex slave and also he was anime jeff bezos have fun in hell lmao I think Haru should've shown growth as a character and had issues with Akechi because he stole her choice away in the matter of her father, instead of being like oh no im sad about daddy. She chose to change his heart, which is also a cruel fate so it must've been hard for her, and that was just taken. Kinda sucks.

I also really liked Royal's story and his role there but I don't feel like writing any more than this right now lmao

It took me years to get in on pumpkin spice because I fell for the pressure to not be like the other girls because some dudes made this whole stereotype about how it's a dumb woman drink. Also I was mad it made everyone skip apple season. lol

But it's so good I get them all the time now. Especially when it's still warm out I like the iced lattes and fraps a lot. :meow-coffee:
