  • There certainly are very useful applications for IoT. For example, at my house it regulates heating. It probably saved like 30% on my heating, with the added bonus that every room is the exact temperature I want. Of course, this is all done locally on Home Assistant. If I can at all avoid it, I don't want any IoT device that connects to someone else's cloud.

  • Please, if you dont want to participate in the forms, be so kind and DONT participate in it. And dont bash others for beeing not an linux elitist that only touches FOSS stuff. The last point is a “pun” a “joke” or in german a “witz”. If you dont understand it and only search tinfoil conspiracy theories than please not here. If you are really that deep invested into alliens that want to learn about your species by spying onto you through non FOSS software, then please dont use the internet, go out, have friends and put your tinfoil where it belongs, as a wrapper for some cooking.

Wow, admin's reply to someone explaining why using Microsoft Forms for survey might not be the greatest idea.

NixOS has much more packages, and they are more up to date. Honestly, it is a shame because there are many things about Guix I prefer (especially its license). Also, if you are a developer, it is really nice getting to use nix flakes to set up your development environments.

To be honest, so far it has been better than I expected. I also have an account on Lemmygrad and yeah there are definitely more libs than normally, but also some new comrades. Basically, it is like five people doing everything and fighting with people from Lemmygrad.

Probably the most annoying part of how federation work is that you cannot see posts from people your instance banned. So it is impossible to comment on people banned from Lemmygrad, so their posts become really infested.

Overall, the reddit downfall looks pretty promising.

Yes, but it is not only them. At one point I've also been thinking about getting HTC Vive, and technically it is possible to get it working (at least about a year ago) but it had so many caveats that it wasn't worth it. Due to VR still being pretty niche activity and VR companies being some of the most anti FOSS there are not many options apart from Valve Index.

Personally, I really enjoy it. Apart from the "I switched to this distro because it has nicer buttons" or whatever. I love tinkering and trying out obscure software and learning something from it. Plus, it can often be better. This is exactly how I switched from sudo to doas.
