Yeah but even if they were alive they should absolutely be left to die. Not even "because they're rich" but because they made their own choice to go down there, it's not our problem lol.

  • Yeah I always hated the reddit paradigm where posts get buried just because they're a few hours old. Often I'll see an interesting post that I want to comment on but I dont bother because the post is over 12 hours old so nobody will see it.

There's a "new comments" mode now which works like a forum where posts get bumped to the top when someone comments on it. Makes more sense to me than any of these vaguely defined algorithms.

  • It's directed by Greta Gerwig and co-written by her partner Noah Baumbach, both of whom are well-acclaimed Academy-award nominated filmmakers. I think given their reputation plenty of people are expecting this to be elevated beyond the usual commercial schlock you'd expect from a movie about Barbie dolls.

  • The default sort type in the settings no longer applies to comments, which default to hot

I think the best way to deal with this is to have a separate sort setting for comments and posts. And maybe let post creators set the comment sort mode for that specific post. Megathreads in particular are always best when sorted by "new".

In fact "new" should probably be the site-default for comments anyway. "Hot" is some reddit-ass bullshit tbh, I hate the idea of sorting comments by some nebulous upvote-based algorithm. It's a really bad concept to build a community on.
