On the bright side, the name is now alt text, so they can be identified more easily

On the one hand, that is awesome. On the other hand, I can't help but be concerned that the inline image ability is going to 1) make the comment section really cluttered and haphazard. 2) Less readable overall and maybe even less conducive to discussion. 3) kill or just detract from the creative emoji... culture thing we have here that some (not me) have taken to an art form.

But I could be completely wrong and just afraid of all the changes happening on my beloved hexbear. meow-knit scared

Edit: And actually 4) get used by wreckers in more ways than I can imagine.

only thing I really don't like is the pronoun tags. they looked better when they were in a lil bubble instead of the brackets, now they just blend in with the username :/

it was better. We will continue to make improvements to this UI. The old one was completely custom (and made by people with much better sense of design and performance than lemmy tbqh) but the people that wrote it are long gone and the API that it used has changed a lot, etc. so we are now back to a (still modified) version of lemmy's frontend UI.

My understanding is it was mostly burnout from the people developing the fork being the same people modding/admining the site. Especially considering how contentious every struggle session was back then and the sheer number of unhinged wreckers.

feddit.de has already banned hexbear preemptively. I swear Germans are especially reactionary even by imperial core standards.

You can access feddit.de's communities and discussions from lemmy.ml for example, no need to make an account on feddit.de or visit feddit.de at all. Theoretically you could also access feddit.de forums from hexbear if/when hexbear enabled this feature (called federation). But feddit.de has added hexbear.net to the list of banned instances preemptively, just in case, so they can't see us and you can't post there. I think this also means feddit.de users will not see any posts by any hexbear account, even if they're part of the same discussion thread on lemmy.ml.

So, you might reply to some German's braindead post on !worldnews@lemmy.ml, but they won't see it or know you replied at all.

Hats off on the crew doing a 19 Hour lift and shift on a Saturday. They're never fun. Whatever issues will still be here to tackle after a well deserved break. Thanks team!

upstream lemmy is overhauling theming rn it seems. You could maybe retheme the site on your end with a userscript or something in the meantime though

mad appreciation to our devs, thank you! the glitchiness of lemmy is gonna take some getting used to though. it's a lot glitchier than our fork was. the switch is totally understandable though
