I'll take a Martini
I'll take a Martini
this is a satisfying story
just said too much load for a while, I'm sure it's back up I was just wondering if there were alternatives.
it's likely they won't stay ahead of the curve for long given the number of people leaving the company.
Tony Abbott still reckons it doesn't exist. we'll keep arguing until we're extinct
on the one hand, yes, I write software and take showers when I'm stumped because it's a great way to think through it.
on the other hand the world didn't need an article about it.
as replied elsewhere, yeah I agree that's insanely irresponsible, but we didn't know that until now.
agree completely. that's fucked. I accept it may not have been malicious but it's crazy irresponsible.
but that detail came out a day after the guy baying for his blood above, my point was if you have no idea what actually happened, focus on having compassion for people affected, not immediately getting a pitchfork and yelling for "justice".
that kind of justice... well, it usually isn't justice.
ohhhh I've been there! Freezing day but still gorgeous
in a world with dwindling resources people are satisfied with something they already own. sounds wonderful.
here it is: https://www.theguardian.com/australia-news/2023/nov/08/daylesford-pub-crash-driver-what-happened-driver-diabetes-insulin
you want to jail everyone who drives an SUV for life?
i mean i fucking hate SUVs and melbourne is absolutely filthy with them - i absolutely think they should have a tax penalty to discourage anyone living there from owning them needlessly, but still - if this is some older farmer who had an unexpected minor stroke and has to wake up to the news he's killed five people, i'm not going to be standing in the fucking hospital berating him about his choice of car and trying to make him feel like a murderer. that's absolutely fucking awful.
have some opinions on sensible car regulation, sure, but this is gross. wait until you know what happened before calling for blood for owning a type of car or some shit.
he was sober and apparently unconscious? afaik he hasn't been interviewed yet while he gets medical treatment.
I mean if he did it on purpose, sure, but dude you have zero idea - it is entirely possible this is a medical event he had no control over, and he now has to live with being the driver in this awful situation.
can't you just care about the people affected without immediately wanting some completely uninformed revenge?
yeah the issue honestly is how much someone else has to read to understand your code. it's weird because the whole article is about making readable code for the next person and he never stops to address the fact that leaving 10x as much code to read might also make life more difficult.
I feel like he just wanted to make a point about how it's nice to make types immutable and suggest other techniques can be worth implementing too, which I agree with, but honestly his premise is a trainwreck.
When I was about 15 I woke up at about 4am, super distressed, and I knew someone had died. I didn't want to go look so I just hoped it wasn't my mother or father, shamefully I thought it would be better if it was a grandparent. There was a lot of going over possibilities and mental bargaining.
Eventually I calmed down and realised it was irrational and finally got back to sleep, the following day I found out it was a close friend of my mother's. She'd killed herself. I don't understand what happened, I don't really believe in the supernatural but it was very strange.
oh I know. given possibilities I'm just saying, it might be better not to publicise the name regardless. some trials are thrown out because of it.
a Freudian removed. I mean, quip. sorry!
I did when I was young and broke. now I don't. 🤷♂️
it's free and convenient? if there was another reliable, free git host with a polished web interface and decent cli for features like issues, sure, I'd consider moving to it. I'm not in the market though, I have other work to do
also the github actions workflows are brilliant.
that's awesome, didn't know that

just saw this as a follow up, thought you might be curious. i feel bad for everyone honestly. dude has to be an idiot but god, what a consequence to live with.
