  • for the past two years i've been fortunate enough to have my parents support me, but i haven't been going to school during this time either, i really haven't done anything in that time that i could put down on my resume, so yeah i may just have to lie and say that i've been attending school.

  • I think a large part, as others have said, is to collect physical media, but another large reason could be because people want to support the artists they listen to by actually buying their music. Streaming services are the most popular way to listen to music now and they are so fucking awful when it comes to compensating artists that most of them cannot even come close to relying on them for a stable income, even when you take in to consideration streaming on multiple platforms. So doing things like buying a record or a CD or even just buying an album digitally on a site like bandcamp does a lot more for the artists that you enjoy because they receive a much larger fraction of that money. Also, doing things like buying merch and going to shows are other good ways of supporting the artists you love!

  • yeah it's silly, I think it's just a poor attempt to make themselves feel better about how awful the animal agriculture industry is, especially since these people don't usually want to put an end to the meat industry that provides them with their leather, they just want "better conditions" for the animals being slaughtered or to replace slaughterhouses with "happy humane family farms" that allow animals to frolic around before they're sent to their death. the other extremely common argument for the usage of leather is that it lasts a very long time so as long as you use it for life it's sustainable, or people will also try to hold on to using leather products by buying second hand because you're not directly supporting the leather industry. but of course we still shouldn't be wearing the skins of butchered animals and by continuing to do so we're signaling to others that's it's morally permissable and that animals are still just commodities/objects to be worn

  • genuinely curious, are there any other sources for this? I've tried to find other news outlets covering this and I can't find anything whatsoever

edit: the author of this article, Stephen Bryen, also made this a post on his substack and within the comment section of the post he cites some sources from twitter and Russian media that report the supposed deployment of these French Foreign Legionnaires as early as April 12th.

    https://weapons.substack.com/p/france-sends-troops-to-ukraine/comment/55480014?utm_campaign=comment-list-share-cta&utm_medium=web&triedRedirect=true

From one of the Russian sources cited in his comment ( https://en.topwar.ru/240367-rossijskie-resursy-pervoe-podrazdelenie-francuzskogo-inostrannogo-legiona-perebrosheno-v-slavjansk.html ) , they say:

-The first French military arrived in Ukraine; a unit from the French Foreign Legion was transferred to the Slavyansk area. This was reported by the Russian TG channel "Military Chronicle".

According to available information, a unit of one hundred people from the 3rd Infantry Regiment of the French Foreign Legion was transferred to Slavyansk. Apparently, this is the advance group that the rest will follow. The French military appeared in the city the day before; they are based at the location of the 54th separate mechanized brigade of the Ukrainian Armed Forces and move around the city only accompanied by the Ukrainian military.

The unit reportedly includes artillery reconnaissance specialists, as well as an engineering group specializing in fortification and field fortifications. Most likely, the French will build up the defense of Slavyansk in case of a breakthrough by Russian troops.

Military correspondent Yuri Kotenok also reports this; he talks about the transfer of the first units of French mercenaries to the Slavyansk area. According to him, they arrived at the disposal of the 7th Mechanized Infantry Brigade of the Ukrainian Armed Forces, and not the 54th, but these are already details. However, he clarifies that the information is unconfirmed.

"We are talking about an engineering group and specialists aviation reconnaissance of the 3rd infantry regiment of the legion, which arrived at the location of the 7th ombre of the Ukrainian Armed Forces"

    • writes Kitten in his TG channel.

For our part, we note that we can neither confirm nor deny this information, so everything is at your discretion. At the same time, there is no smoke without fire.

  • Not mentioned within the photo posted by OP is the fact that the protesters were disrupting a National Vietnam War Veterans Day commemoration, an event for honoring the "bravery" and "sacrifice" of the US soldiers who are responsible for causing an overwhelming amount of pain, suffering and death in Vietnam. It's honestly just so fucking crazy that right before the departure of a US naval ship to go support a genocide, they're celebrating the so called heroes of one of the most disgusting wars perpetrated by the United States in the 20th century.

  • I have had a good experience buying second hand online from https://www.betterworldbooks.com/ and https://www.thriftbooks.com/, they're both good when it comes to looking for used leftist theory books. Other than that I typically just check out my local bookstores or libraries to see if they have any used copies of something that I'm looking for, it can be really hit or miss though.
