  • Yeah and it's also worth pointing out echo chambers have kind of been a feature of the internet from the very beginning, they were just a lot smaller back then so not as big of a deal. Before the rise of social media sites like digg, reddit, Facebook etc subject-specific forums, message boards and email lists were much more common.

  • I think it's fine. Reddit itself already encourages the formation of echo chambers, but even so, each of us can choose to participate on reddit (or any other not-specifically-leftist space) if we want to.

Furthermore having our own community gives us the ability to have full control over the moderation and content of the site and largely removes the risk of another ban splitting up the community again. And I think it's important to build solidarity among all leftist tendencies, as we already have a habit of compartmentalizing ourselves not just as leftists but as anarchists, MLs, Maoists etc. I think this forum can help do that.

  • Well said... America has a problem with expecting the police, a state-sanctioned violent gang, to mediate everything from domestic violence disputes to mentally unstable, suicidal or drug addicted people who need help. Instead of being helped, they get ignored, beaten, shot, or thrown in jail.

We need to reimagine what our emergency response services should look like beyond police, fire and medical. Imagine if we replaced police with a variety of response specialists, such as for example, psychological crisis response specialists to respond to mental breakdowns and suicidal behavior. Addiction response specialists to offer resources and access to counselling/rehab for drug addicts. DV specialists who are equipped to offer support and remove the victim from the situation if they want to get out. And for violent situations, the responders should be trained in deescalation and non-lethal subjugation tactics, so that lethal force is only ever an absolute last resort.

I know all these problems are a lot more complicated than I'm making it seem, but this would still be a huge improvement from what we currently have. Police are good at taking a bad situation and either doing nothing or making it worse.

  • I mean there is nothing Dems are better at than snatching defeat from the jaws of victory. Im not too confident Trump will lose and even if he does, I wonder if all his bitching about "mail-in voting fraud" isn't him setting himself up to contest the results. I could see the police and military backing him up.

Yep for sure, only downside for me is i'm used to being able to browse reddit using RIF on my phone. But the mobile site for chapochat is far from the worst I've ever had to use. The devs are doing a great job.

I think r/alltheleft got started recently in the wake of Chapo getting b&, intended as a space for all leftist tendencies, but while it's good to have it hasnt got the same size or energy that CTH did. But we're here now!
