Piracy 101 tutorials. Someone posted their personal left rss feed.
Extremely my shit.
My wife looked over my shoulder yesterday and asked, “what’s this Chapo chat? Are you and your autistic friends hacking the government?” She then went to the website to see what it was about and she said she didn’t understand anything anyone here was saying.
said she didn't understand anything anyone here was saying
then she's more than welcome here lmao
ngl, the journey from "I have no idea what anyone is saying" to "I've spent way too much time here" is shorter than you think if you take a detour to the rosetta stone: harry potter jokes.
ive only ever had to google two things, what pig poop balls was, and what theory meant.
and i still dont know what the last ome is
Hacking the government? pulls out toy train whistle We're phreaking the world
Democratizing the internet is both cool and good.
It reminds me of the forum age of the internet in a good way.
Federation will make that even better. The abusive, power-tripping mods of yesteryear lose a lot of their ability to bully their users using their monopoly on access to the community when users can just join another instance and continue socializing with said community.
That's what I'm hoping for. I've said it before, but I hope that when Federation rolls out for Lemmy it'll be a case of being able to create my own instance and follow communities from other instances. That would rule.
I should probably stop being dumb and actually read the Lemmy roadmap.
Honestly, it does, and it's sort of calm and comforting in a way right now. But at the same time, I'm also excited to get back to the high posting energy we had before the ban.
Hell yeah, that's why I'm here. Shout out to all my purists who never got their head turned by Discord and waited for our true salvation. They built it, we will cum.
hahahahahah crap I honestly hadn't thought of the law since the sub was shut.
I even made the first, official Hornypost on this whole website. Look it up. Didn't see no cops anywhere.
Look at this counter-revolutionary dog. Where is the volcel vanguard?
A website that you can actually browse on mobile without being assaulted by a hundred bells and whistles is so fucking rare nowadays.
Honestly at this point I'm so used to be being bombarded with sponsored posts and ads that my user experience is suffering. It doesn't feel right to be able to browse a website without latent rage
It was a bit slow for me earlier today but it works even with Javascript disabled and it has a built-in dark mode. I'd still like an app since it's not as responsive as most Reddit apps, but it's something I can link people to without their phone exploding.
Discord sucks ass, it's good when it's a small group but otherwise it's just sooo overwhelming
Agree I do like the discord in the slower chats but I couldn't do the main megachat. That shit moves at like 200mph at peak hours
Yeah definitely agree with you on both points. I'm still gonna be hanging around in the discord in any case
I joined the discord so I could know when it the new colony was done. I saw it as a life raft and nothing more tbh.
The Discord is like trying to find a table in a crowded cafeteria where you don’t know anyone.
Now Replace the Discord with a good old fashion IRC and we'll be cooking
Yeah, agree. Matrix looks good for a free and open Discord alternative.
I can confirm that it is. I know a fuck ton about matrix and how it works and how you can use it. Get in touch if you want to learn.
Right now the communities feature is a little bit annoying but it should be really good once subrooms hit the spec and clients start implementing them.
Hey, appreciate it. Have been playing around with matrix clients for years, it seems great. I'm ready for it to take over - have native clients installed on every device possible ovah heah.
That's the one OS I didn't try but there definitely is a riot or matrix app for iOS.
Imagine a channel with 10,000 users... is that even possible? Though I know it would be a server with many channels in reality.
Yeah. I'm loving it. I am an old jerk approaching 40 and I remember what the internet was like back in the 90s and 00s and this new Fediverse is giving me those kind of vibes, even if they function like a Reddit or a Twitter. The feeling and openness behind them is very different and inspiring.
Glad to be here, looking forward to this community's future. I'm very grateful towards all the volunteers that worked on this. Thank you so much!
Same, even as someone who was barely online pre-2004.
I think the absence of adds and unnecessarily bloated web-pages is a big part of it.
A thing I discovered after the cth ban was that it hadn't any add because it was quarantined. I realize it when I tried to migrate to other subs. Fucking reddit did us a solid when they got butthurt for the slaver violence.
Reddit also loves those shitty ass native ad placements where they make it look like a post.
ehh i dunno tbh. I just got here now, but I was so used to the old default reddit look that im afraid im going to find it pretty hard to figure out whats going on here
Reminds me of my early internet experiences where a group of us would split off a bigger community and make our own forum with like 5 users. I like it
I still stumble upon forums like rhizzone.net from time to time and it's like looking in a time capsule
shroomery.org is another site like that. Pretty sure it hasn't changed since at least 2005

This thread is based and juchepilled
I love it, I'm so glad this was made. The internet needs more spaces like this
