  • Just hold your ground and keep reading your book, eating alone etc. If someone enters personal territory, shut it down by being honest "I don't want to talk about that" and move on. Resist peer pressure and be who you are, it's the same as it was in school.

Also, talk to your coworkers (I know it's hard) about whether they think it's appropriate. You have an impression they're on board with this level of "intimacy" but it's possible they are just going along to get along.

If persisting doesn't work then it's probably time to find another job. Plenty of workplaces out there that just want you to do your job and no more.

HR is definitely not on your side either, unless you can point to specific violations of policy. They exist specifically to cover their own ass, not to actually make your life better.

  • Generations is a fun movie, but I demand an edit where Picard uses the Nexus to go back and save his nephew from burning to death and then uses his foreknowledge to defeat Soren easily.

Why is it okay to go back to save millions of Veridians but not to save Remy and then the Veridians by extension? Either way you're messing with the timeline. Soren already won.

  • I'm with you. It definitely didn't need to reference the older movies as much, deepfake Ian Holm was totally unnecessary, but for being a horror thriller I thought it kept up the tension pretty well. Not exactly high art, but definitely a good popcorn movie.

  • I love Lower Decks... But I'm also sorta okay with it ending after another season. The main characters are really not even lower deckers anymore and it would make sense for them to start going their separate ways... The trajectory for almost every ensign friend group I'd bet.

That said, if there isn't an animated follow up in the pipe that at least lets us check in on the LDers from a different POV, I'd be sad. Just give Mike McMahan another show and see what happens.

  • ... There is literally no way to watch The Wire and get that message. The whole show is about how hard it is to do worthwhile police work even with the best intentions, and then every character is a piece of shit on top of it.

Only people you can really root for without reservation are the project kids.

They have to say that. I did 420 in Austin years ago and they said they had a bag policy, but security never actually searched (just glanced) in bags and cops around suddenly went blind to pot. It's almost like they don't really care if you have permits and are making the right people money. Shit, now with THC-A etc. being legal here (corpo boondoggle it is) nobody can tell what you're smoking anyway.

It's the same thing with big music fests. Yeah, "no drugs allowed" wink wink, nudge nudge.

  • Yeah, she's actually got a pretty great arc on the show. Even becomes a qualified bridge commander because of that episode.

And, honestly, I think a lot of her sex symbol rep in the '90s was because the public wasn't ready to take mental health seriously. Some of her counseling scenes have aged pretty well IMO, and her contribution to the crew was very valuable.

  • I rewatched for S4 and honestly S2 just sorta failed as a follow up, but it was... Okay for a procedural. S1 was only great because of the McConaughey/Harrelson duo, the end was actually kinda weak I think. Then S3 was just S1 redux with Mahershala (although I loved his character).

I think S4 might actually be the best complete season.

  • IRL anarchists are too busy anarchy-ing to fuck around on the internet full time. They spent the last week burning forestry equipment in Atlanta. They spent the last week getting arrested for feeding the homeless. They spent the last week planning a march on your boss. They DGAF about memes, or really anything except creating areas of the world where life is slightly less shit.
