I just watched it and I gotta say it was pretty ok, maybe even good.
It's pacing is far more "TV" than Season 1 which feels like an 8 part film, and I was definitely bored through the middle 4 episodes, but overall I think it did have something to say that was well communicated.
Definitely pretty bleak though.
Honestly, for me, True Detective was a one season limited series. And I'm perfectly happy with that.
I rewatched for S4 and honestly S2 just sorta failed as a follow up, but it was... Okay for a procedural. S1 was only great because of the McConaughey/Harrelson duo, the end was actually kinda weak I think. Then S3 was just S1 redux with Mahershala (although I loved his character).
I think S4 might actually be the best complete season.
I've only watched seasons 1 and 4. Most people say season 2 is not good, and season 3 is better, but I have a friend I trust wrt thinking about media who says season 2 is better than 3.
i thought Season 4 was ok, dunno why everyone made it seem like the worst thing ever made
