they spent their time preemptively scolding fans to not be invasive, which I guess is fine.....but amber made it especially weird with the quote "we're all family here, and you're not in it, I'm sorry" which is just a very strange sentiment given the circumstances.......this was an announcement to his fans about a serious condition, and she took the time to remind people that she's much closer to him than you........just very weird and offputting......Felix I thought was basically fine, just a bit protective.
Most fans of anything are normal people, but if you have a million fans and even .1% are weirdos that's 1000 people. If you're friend is hurt, maybe dying and you know 1000 people are going to do something invasive or creepy to find out why you might get a little defensive. I thought she was fine under the circumstances.
pretty natural reaction from people who get unsolicited and far-too-familiar replies to everything they say. their friend is in the hospital; give em a break.
Is she wrong? I don't think you or I understand what it's like to be such a public figure. You're kind of making this about you to be honest and I don't really think it's justified.
I mean, I don’t think I am, and let me reiterate that I totally get why they wanted to stress privacy, but the way it was communicated was a bit abrasive…..but shit, it’s a stressful and tragic time, I’m not mad at anyone, I just am full of love and hope for Matt and his family.
9/10 I think content creators reminding their audience that their parasocial fantasies are fake is a good thing but I sort of agree that Amber took that a bit far and did it in a weird context.
I think they've seen people "get wierd with it" online and have just overrcorrected a bit. Remember that Hexbearians are, somehow, comparitively normal people compared to most Extremely Online types. And Matt's acid rants skew to a wierd audience.
They've seen a lot of stalkers etc, they know they'll get a flurry of morbid speculation, and the last thing they want is for some wierdo to show up at Matt's hospital room or start camping his house.
Also they are distraught over their friend. They have to read prepared statements and...well it seemed heavily edited. His wife must be in hell right now, about to have a child! You'd be an asshole too under that type of stress!
Heck most of us here can't talk about bees without a vicious struggle session. So I think they're handling it ok considering and we should cut them some slack.
Amber hasn't been on the podcast for like 2 years and the first thing she has to say is "we're a family and you're not in it". I don't understand how a grown ass adult can be so petty and spiteful, especially in a horrible circumstance like this
We really don't know much about their situation as a whole. For all we know, Amber wanted out of the spotlight and still works on the show in the background.
For how many people who have a parasocial relationship with their favorite podcasters, I feel like that harsh message is necessary. Regardless of how much we hear from Amber, she's probably still closer to them than any listener could hope to be. To them there is a clear line between their friends and family and weirdos who listen. Sure Amber is mean, but she's also right. Anyone learning about Matt's condition from the fucking soundcloud is probably not in that family.
Felix and Amber were both assholes during this seven minutes, really showing why Matt is Chapo
Is this a bit comment? All Amber and Felix said were the typical "keep him in your thoughts and give his family privacy" stuff.

She was right and it was worth saying because people lose perspective on their paradoxical relationships sometimes
