ranmao in one of the most transgender images ever conceived

it predates the term egg, and it almost certainly predates the trans flag, so whoever drew this may have been some kind of psychic in the 90s

it might predate that too! idk when this was drawn, probably mid 90s. i just found the image on tumblr a few years ago and saved it to my phone.

ranma has always been trans but this is on another level

Like I know Leslie Feinberg discusses the historical gendering of pink and blue in Trans Liberation in ‘98, and I think that’s the same year the transgender flag was first made by Monica Helms?

      Thank you for sharing! rosa-salute

if this is official art (which it could be, a show like ranma has a lot of art made for magazines or drama cd's or whatever of the characters in cute outfits or fun situations) than it was probably made between 1990 and 1995. if it's fan art it could have been made at any time, but my guess is early 2000s at the absolute latest. this has big 'posted on someone's fanshrine' energy

the other possibility is that this is an edit of an existing piece, but that doesn't give me anything to go off

i don't have a date yet, but danbooru says it's official art: https://danbooru.donmai.us/posts/4133322. it's source is just ranma 1/2, which isn't very helpful lol. i also found this wonderful fan site with a low quality version of the art in question: http://www.ranma.it/ranmachan2.htm. same crop it looks like.

above is tinyeye's comparison image with a variant i found (it wouldn't let me download it standalone >:[). the wayback machine is down for me i think, but there wasn't much on the links i scoped before it went down anyway. also here's a link to the tinyeye results in case they're interesting: https://tineye.com/search/b5ead25696900a4827bc2a2b55ba48f69fc79126?sort=score&order=desc&page=1

thank you! that's very helpful, i think i can say with confidence that this predates the trans flag in that case even without a date
