They have made tremendous strides and yet we hear nothing about it outside of educator's circles and the odd news article like this one.
I started a new job last year here in Canada where part of my duties involve handling certain regulatory issues for our US branches. I've been doing work like this for 10+ years domestically. But holy cow, the rent-seeking American bureaucracies are driving me crazy. No wonder a certain group of Americans distrusts the entire concept of government. The only ones they've ever known, typically via privatised rent-seeking bureacracies, are all trying to soak them.
