If any typical American had just gotten away from an active shooter situation, and someone on a bus pulled a gun on them, it's not unlikely that they'd try to wrest the gun away and shoot the gunman. And having just shot someone on a bus, wanting to steer the bus to somewhere preferred is not an insane response.
