        They were going to bring charges but the primary witness was the victim, who is or was a sex worker. Since the defense would just say, "You can't trust a prostitute over a US representative.", they decided not to proceed.

          Perhaps I missed some details, but I believe the argument was a bit different (but also probably included what you said). They wanted to use the other convicted pedophile, his buddy, but they feared a jury wouldn't trust a convicted pedophile. I think these were both effectively speculation though since the feds never formally acknowledged much of it. We saw the evidence and we knew they were pursuing charges... and then it went poof with little reason why
