I don't recall Harry Potter's prose being that painful. Geez, was the Casual Vacancy and her other adult books the turning point where her prose goes bad or something?

i think maybe part of it is the subject matter.

"... find harry," ron bellowed in hermiones ear, pressing a wand into her hand, [as] they edged out of the room again into rons own bedroom, which seemed even smaller than it really was because every inch of the walls and ceiling had been covered in magical flyers and posters, the orange of idksomewizardshit and the black and red of broomsticksportballteam predominating.

when youre reading about wizards zippity zapping each other with big red sparkles, you tend to be a bit more forgiving of the language

      Yea

Maybe I didn't notice when I was younger, but this was very poorly written

At the risk of sounding like an insufferable lib, I think it's the hate.

Whatever your opinion on Harry Potter, it was a labour of love you know? Something she wanted to write and create and share these characters with the world.

With this garbage it's all driven by this weird grubby hatred that seems to have more or less become who she is. Crafting of language, syntax, plot, all the character development takes a back seat to all that bile so it all suffers and the only thing left is a window into the diseased mind of a liberal terf.
