Medieval people get a bad rap. They were superstitious as shit and did plenty of dumb shit but in a way at least their ignorance was less conspiratorial. There is at least a grander unifying explanation of reality by saying "God did it." There's some philosophical bones under the skin even if it's kinda flimsy under intense scrutiny. They weren't booking transcontinental flights and posting videos on the internet and doing so much shit that requires modern technology while simultaneously rejecting huge swathes of that scientific knowledge in order to hock miracle cures and homeopathy. Flight is possible but the birds aren't real? The way they pick and choose is so damn inconsistent and overall goofy.
