National guardsmen sometimes get deployed overseas.

Nat. Guards fought protestors at standing rock.

Nt. guards fought protesters in Ferguson.

Nat. guards isn't worth it. If you're that desperate for cash, become an accountant or a phlebotomist.

    Fuck off man

Don't join the imperialist military in any way. You will be used as a tool for the bourgeoise. You will not just be giving up a weekend a month, you will be under a legally binding contract with the government where you can possibly be deployed to put down riots, break strikes, or occupy foreign lands. You will lose your autonomy, in whatever form it currently exists.

And then they randomly decide to invade Vietnam and all of a sudden you're being ordered to gut kids for daddy capitalism.

it appears i may have posted cringe :thonk:

idk, how does working 2 days a month getting taught basic shit and getting good benefits in your state support imperialism? if you are ever called up just "break" your foot or something lol

using the tools and knowledge of the empire to weaken it makes sense??

You don't need to be in the national guard to do this and then you don't have to gas protestors or turn the gears on the imperialist death machine either

If that's your goal, have you considered joining a mutual aid disaster relief org?

the national guard is an arm of the state, why the fuck should any of us operate in the interests of the state.

because you get awesome benefits and don’t actually fucking do anything besides workout and get basic training as a reservist

the state literally gets nothing from you unless there is an emergency in state, which 7 times out of 10 you are actually doing something good for your local community.

Ex. Working covid testing sites, giving food and water after a disaster. If they call you to a protest just have a gym “accident”

While I don't doubt you have good intentions, I think that most people on this board would have moral objections to joining the national guard.

bro you pay taxes, you support the system 10x more than a reservist standing around getting paid.

        bro you pay taxes

        Big assumption there, lol.

Live your life, OP, but you really can't see a difference between taxes being forced upon you and joining the national guard of your own free will. And and recrooting for them for free is pretty cringe.

i literally can't see any issue with being a STATE national guard reservist. the gov gives you up to 600 bucks a month and 50k in debt relief for 2 days a month of exercise and training.

you aren't doing anything but collecting a check and learning military tactics and how to deal with national disasters. you aren't doing anything to support imperialism or the military's foreign agenda

i considered it for all the reasons you're stating

but there's a serious risk of getting deployed if another major war breaks out. unfortunately fuck that.

you knew this was going to set off the armchair leftists here right? right? This shit isn't fucking ideal, but if you don't have another option then fuck it. Better than straight up fully enlisting.

I would agree with this, but caution you that if you can avoid it, you should. Some people in this country are all but forced into it because of their economic situation.
