For this Sunday Slop Night, first up is Dragon Inn (1967), a Taiwanese action-war-martial arts saga from wuxia maestro (otherwise best-known for 1971’s A Touch of Zen.) What if court eunuchs decided to assassinate a general, and then kill his children, but the kids kick their butts instead? The protagonist is a lady swordsman who is out to prove that chicks, indeed, rock. This has an extremely high Letterboxd rating, and is considered one of the formative wuxia movies, so let’s give it a whirl. The second film tonight is Goodbye Dragon Inn (2003), which is not a sequel or remake, but rather, a magical-realist drama set in a movie theater showing Dragon Inn, during which the ghosts of the past, both literally and metaphorically, appear to lament the bygone era of the film. This is one of the best-known and best-regarded films of Taiwanese auteur Tsai Ming-liang, and is considered an excellent companion piece to Dragon Inn. Let’s watch it.

We’ll start at 9PM EST on Hextube, right here: https://live.hexbear.net/c/movies
