Burkino Faso roughly means “land of upright people”, the name given to it while Thomas Sankara was the leader, to further its independence movement. It was known as “Upper Volta” when it was still a French colony/the short while it was independent in name only
I know very little about Burkina Faso. Is there a sizeable communist movement there, or was that all destroyed by the coup government?
