    Like, I still do this, there are heaps of clubs that do 18th and 19th century dance in pretty dresses.

    They just tend to be the same sort of rabid communists you see in the folk scene.

        I agree, that said I mostly do the 17th century French contre-danse versions which are uh...pretty courtly. (They started as Scottish folk, became French court, then rural American.)

          The couple of times I've done contra dancing have been the more rustic variety, and I had a great time. Actually, thanks for the reminder, that would be a fun post-covid hobby to get in to.

            "modern" contra dance is a hell of a lot of fun, especially at a folk festival where you can drink and dance until the sun comes up.

            I very slightly prefer Scottish Country Dance though

        Maybe this is a commonweath thing but I've never met anyone there that wasn't at least radical green-demsoc. You can sing the internationale and they'll join in.
