Also -- stop replacing high pressure sodium with white LED. The blue light from white LED convinces your brain that it's daytime, whereas the orange from HPS is interpreted as sunset. Also, when the street lights are all orange, you can tell whether that light coming from around the corner is a streetlamp or another car's headlights. I get that LED is more efficient, but at least make the LEDs orange.

White LED is not even more efficient :sadness:

Bring back low pressure sodium, their spectrum is so narrow that when I was young I had a toy telescope which came with a filter that removed all light pollution and it was 🌃.

fuck yea. astronomy is very cool and we basically have to do imperialism to do it anymore because of the amount of light pollution in the imperial core.

if it makes anyone feel any better, with some important exceptions, a lot of this is the typical geopolitics imperialism about putting stuff in the middle of nowhere, on land "legally owned" by colonizers, as opposed to actively desecrating places that people live. Exceptions include Hawaii, at least in some cases, and possibly some of the island sites.

Also, they should have dimmer switches on them so that if one's shining in through your bedroom window you can turn it down.

This doesn't account for all the psychos with 50 spotlights on the their houses that turn on every time an ant walks past them.
