why is this happening.

ok and? Who is bringing in more viewers?

You cannot deplatform someone who already has a bigger platform than you.

Why are you acting like destiny has a chance at not embarrassing himself? You seem upset your educated comrades are going to be taking shots at a big reactionary platform.

So what do you think socialists have to gain by not debating liberals in such events? What could Wolff be doing with his time that's so much more valuable than this? Go on another obscure leftist platform to preach to the choir?

I would much prefer him go on a small platform of... lets say.. BIPOC leftists for example rather than pal around with the N word guy. That is correct yes.

Sorry but that's not good strategy IMO, at that point we're just patting ourselves on the back, nobody watches tiny leftist platforms except other leftists. They have their use insofar as they make accessible various obscure or marginalized viewpoints but if you believe they're gonna get big any time soon you're lying to yourself. And that's what the left needs, it needs way more exposure than it's getting currently, and you're not gonna get it with tiny leftist platforms. Wolff going on a tiny leftists platform would likely bring nobody involved any new insight.

Leftists should be trying to wedge themselves into large mainstream platforms, debatebros included. I'd like to see Wolff talk about marxism on prime time MSNBC for example but we're pretty far from that.

Putting them before gamers how? How do you think Wolff going on a small 1k subscriber BIPOC stream help BIPOC people in any meaningful way? It won't do anything tangible, not one thing, Wolff is not an expert in BIPOC issues nor does he claim to be one. You'll have 1k comrades nodding along with whatever Wolff has to say (probably general stuff about the economy) and everybody will go about their day none the wiser.

On the other hand his debate with Destiny might chip away some amount of Destiny's fanbase. It won't be this earth shattering change in politics but it has a chance of doing SOMETHING.

Dude, half of this website was at some point one of the "anti SJW" gamer types, me included. Why do you keep pretending like these people are unreachable when it clearly isn't true?

Our time will always be better spent reaching out to people who are struggling instead of white edgelord teenagers watching destiny.

Sure, if there's a large online platform comparable to Destiny's with an audience of predominately apolitical BIPOC then yeah Wolff should absolutely go there, but I don't see one honestly. I honestly can't see how Wolff could realistically reach a large audience of BIPOC people today.

White edgelord teenagers is what's on the table today. Tomorrow maybe he goes on prime time national television to talk about marxism, but we're not there yet.

Hey, you're one of those people that noname was talking about last week. You'd rather come take up space in a BIPOC group rather than do the hard work of debating and deprogramming racists.

Oh I didn't realize that the hypothetical BIPOC streamer had an audience of only very-serious adults

Wolff is actually going to speak at a bipoc, post-capitalist conference that centers indigenous and ecological issues, later this week... I get where you're coming from and you're probably right but I think this destiny thing is just part of him making the rounds with various speaking engagements over the past couple weeks.

Doesn't matter. He is the one with more influence. Most of the people watching will be his fans.

Also I'm pretty sure most of the time when these things happen it gets streamed on each of the side's personal streams, so I'm pretty sure Destiny will be streaming the thing on his official stream, making him also the platform.
