    how... how far does the "US Coast" extend. I feel like, uh, you know being a coast guard entailed being near the actual countries' and "territories" is the "coast" they speak of. but do they take this a bit more literal and say all coasts need to be guarded? not joking, coast guard kinda sails under the radar quite a bit

      The navy uses coast guard support for coastal/river shit basically because their stuff is designed for it - they used them in Vietnam. The boats in this story are presumably part of PATFORSWA and were brought over for the Iraq war. PATFORSWA is the biggest overseas coast guard command and it's six boats.
