This is one of those instances that Parenti talks about where they accidentally create their own counter-propaganda because they're so blinded by their own ideology.
Like the best thing to say of you're doing propaganda about this is fucking nothing. Just ignore it. Instead they just reminded people that the US has fucking warships all the way in the Persian Gulf for some fucking reason.
Warships close enough to Iran that these little dingeys can get to them.
Not even warships, people expect a world power will have a cruiser or two roaming around to show off and bully people. The US has it's fucking coast guard, ostensibly a bunch of coastal rescue vessels and revenue cutters in the Persian Gulf!
I wonder what the implications of having a nation's coast guard stationed off the coast of another nation is? Hmm....

I'll see if I can find the exact passage, but he brings it up about halfway through Inventing Reality.
Edit: Here
Section called "Limits of Orthodoxy"
The bottom part about how a story about a corporation being shown as "responsible for cleaning up a chemical spill" which is seen and intended by the editor to make the corporation look good, also draws attention to the fact that they did a chemical spill.
Literally someone coming into your apartment, eating all your food, passing out on the couch and shitting themselves, and then when you say something they say you’re harassing them
lol i feel like in this last week or two i've been seeing more outrageously stupid headlines that read like satire. not even trying to do a "wow nOt thE OnION" thing, the foreign policy propaganda is hitting hard lately
Damn I thought the US Coast guard was one of the only kinda cool military branches because of all the search and rescue they do but nevertheless.
how... how far does the "US Coast" extend. I feel like, uh, you know being a coast guard entailed being near the actual countries' and "territories" is the "coast" they speak of. but do they take this a bit more literal and say all coasts need to be guarded? not joking, coast guard kinda sails under the radar quite a bit
The navy uses coast guard support for coastal/river shit basically because their stuff is designed for it - they used them in Vietnam. The boats in this story are presumably part of PATFORSWA and were brought over for the Iraq war. PATFORSWA is the biggest overseas coast guard command and it's six boats.
some parts of the coast guard run ships that are floating prisons that detain people at sea for prolonged periods of time, too... I think the CG differentiates based on hull colour? so like one is normal rescue shit, and the other is black ops illegal shit.
The U.S. is the perfect example of a bully who will happily dish it out, but if they get even a tiny-ass fraction of a taste of their own medicine, they immediately piss and moan about it lol.
How are you gonna call your enemies the "elite islamic revolutionary guard" and not realise how fucking awesome that sounds?
All these Iranian “cyberterrorisms” I keep hearing about must be from the 1337 Islamic revolutionary guard
i have friends, whom i love dearly nevertheless, who have mental disorders the US foreign policy administration has. except i do not wish ill upon my friends
Bill Hicks' jokes will never be allowed to die: Elite Republican Guard
US Coast Guard gets mad when it finds Persians in the Persian Gulf. Lol
