      yes every nft image/gif you see being bought is just the link to the image or gif.

      you effectively just buying a "special" url that everyone knows is unique.

      but how long is the site hosting the image gonna host it lol?

        Oh I thought the image/file was encoded into the blockchain transaction.

      No, this is absolutely not a risk. Say what you like about crypto, but the transactions are 100% verifiable and irreversible.
