”Now there’s nothing, my money’s gone”
Now I just have to hope my Iraqi Dinar investments see me through
Mr President, my nephews and I are still waiting, sir.
(they are vanishing because the ‘unique’ part of the nft is a fucking link to an image being hosted on a website)
My last landlord also lived in the basement. Is this a thing? She was sweet and I'm pretty sure she had agoraphobia or something and her place was a good deal.
Current place is a management company run by negligent cacodemons. Had to learn the renter rights laws of the state and send legal notices just to get them to do anything.
So like, you basically got the rest of the house while she lived underground? How can I find a landlord like this?
It was a double quadplex, but otherwise yes, it was a split level and she lived in the basement with her fluff ball dog. I don't think I ever saw her leave the property and her daughter was the maintenance person and they would kind of innocuously talk to us about one another behind their backs. One year I think she gave me a Christmas or Easter basket.
I mean, if these dupes were dumb enough to place money in an internet link they might as well have burned the money, there's little difference
I don't know much about how crypto works. What about it destroys the environment?
All crypto bullshit is based around solving math problems for no reason, this is a good article: https://drewdevault.com/2021/04/26/Cryptocurrency-is-a-disaster.html
Becuase of the amount of energy required for computers to run the blockchain, crypto accounted for I think 10% of all energy consumption last year. NFTs are even worse.
Well it's not 10% but yeah. Bitcoin was 51 megatons of CO2, which is like 0.14% of total idk?
Plus Ethereum: https://digiconomist.net/ethereum-energy-consumption
Ethereum uses less than Bitcoin, not more, btw, as it's a less valuable network overall therefore less incentive for mining.
Thanks for the correction. I find this crap hard to follow most of the time.
You now have a hotlink to dodgy image hosting provider and you have immutable proof of said link “ownership” :porky-happy:
basically you and the guy with a link agree you own it. It's like if you paid me to agree you own the Mona Lisa
The thing you bought might be gone, but we'll always have the environmental destruction <3
Wasn't this always the risk of purchasing NFTs? People are fucking stupid.
yes every nft image/gif you see being bought is just the link to the image or gif.
you effectively just buying a "special" url that everyone knows is unique.
but how long is the site hosting the image gonna host it lol?
Oh I thought the image/file was encoded into the blockchain transaction.
Yeah what the fuck... this is even more of a joke than I could have imagined
No, this is absolutely not a risk. Say what you like about crypto, but the transactions are 100% verifiable and irreversible.
:wojak-nooo: you just can't prt scn on my meme png of Elon Musk as Tony Stark!
:sicko-yes: :sicko-yes: :sicko-yes: :sicko-yes: :sicko-yes: :sicko-yes: :sicko-yes: :sicko-yes: :nicholson-yes: :nicholson-yes: :nicholson-yes:
Things like this really exposes how a lot of people have such a cartoonish conception on capitalism and economy are. Value is when thing is rare. Ownership is a divine concept woven into the universe. Capitalism is when you sell thing for more money.
Serves these crypto fucks right for supporting bullshit currencies causing enormous environmental damage. Bitcoin alone consumes more electricity than the entire country of Argentina.
People who got grifted are confirmed to have gotten grifted. More at 11.
