They've been making them for longer than the average zoomer on this website has been alive, I don't really see the issue. Played like five of them myself, most of them were good and none were awful.
@WhyEssEff can I get this added to the emoji patch? Didn't know I needed it until this moment but now I'll literally die if I don't have it.
Miyamoto himself admitted that Zelda was a mistake.

Adventure of Link, specifically, but whatever, point still stands.
People like story continuity in everything, including video games. It’s easier to enjoy something you’re already familiar with than it is to like something entirely new
I’m sorry, what is the story in Zelda? Where is it? Unlikely hero grows up in village, saves princess. Nearly every game, no? I just can’t find it compelling.
I said elsewhere that I am not the biggest fan of Zelda games. The only two I find to be really fun and rewarding to play are Wind Waker and Botw and I don’t think it’s an accident that they have the most unique gameplay
Also fun tho so if you like the game you like the story you therefore want more story
A lot of them have pretty similar loops as far as go to dungeon -> solve puzzles and do fights -> get item -> solve puzzles and beat boss with item -> repeat for every other dungeon, with some sidequests and collectable maguffins. I like them and I wouldn't say the recycling is as egregious as, say, the main Pokemon series, but it's there for sure.
Yeah, definitely not super new games each time, but they still all build on that formula in their own ways.
There's also usually a minimum of two years between games, usually more. Sure that's a lot of games but they also came out over the course of 35 years
Botw is def worth the time especially if you like an open world game. I don’t care much for the others beyond wind waker
Yeah it fixed what was broken with other open world games before it. Skyrim has to make it near impossible to get the big magic sword, by making exploration restrictive, because if you do manage to get the big sword, you've just made half of the game too easy. So it ends up being close to linear.
In BoTW you get to have the big sword and its fucks motherfuckers up, but then it breaks.
People bitch to no end about weapon durability. Sure you could tune it to break a bit slower, but if all those weapons didn't break, you couldn't have a Lynel sword or whatever until late game - they'd have to add a bull fucking shit level requirement and level up system. Because after cheesing one Lynel, suddenly half the game is boring as fuck.
I played the whole of BOTW without getting the big magic sword at all
It's been around and successful for 35 years so at this point there's a decent amount of games?
