Even the turds I know who insisted they MUST get the game cos "muh childhood" barely clocked 15 hours into the game and never touched it again. Not even dedicated to the bit, weak.
It looks more mid than the last few assassins creed games. Literally only gamergate dorks care about it at this point
it looked like the combat system would be fun for about and hour and then extremely repetitive after
GOTY noms for The Game Awards feel off. No Armored Core VI, no fighting game reps, but a remake and Mario Wonder got nominated?
Mario Wonder is genuinely the bomb, though RE4make seems a little out of place (so does Tears of the Kingdom tbh). IMO nothing else on that list even touches BG3 though.
People fukken forgot about Pizza Tower though. "best debut indie game" how about one of the top three games this year.
Yeah I think TotK, SM2, and BG3 are the only ones with realistic shots. TotK is in an odd spot as it’s a vast improvement on a GOTY winner, but that was a GOTY winner six years ago. The industry has moved on, so it’s not clear if the buff is enough.
Honestly this year in general feels off. Like I enjoyed my time with AC6 and BG3 but they both have enough issues that I feel hold them back from being truly great. Then again, I don't think I played anything else that came out this year (excluding Starfield which, lol). RE4 doesn't belong on that list, remakes should be automatically disqualified. Also, no fighting game will ever make it onto a mainstream GOTY list because the FGC is tiny compared to the general gaming community.
Fuck it, just give it to Elden Ring a second time.
AC6 may be more niche than other From games but oh boy do I love that game.
I feel like it promised more souls DNA in it. I don't know why I was surprised it was armored core
Nah, streetfighter is good, but fighting games still haven't cracked the code to becoming good games. We enjoy them immensely, but they are never going to be mainstream in the way an ending ring is
Further proof that the gaming industry hates powerful women (who spend all their time online hating trans people).
And what is the lasting memory of it everyone has? Nothing to do with the game at all because it was forgettable, the memory people have is that it was a huge transphobia drama. Something that is not going to magically leave the consciousness of the franchise.
It doesn't need to win any awards and I doubt it was ever a goal. They made a shit ton of money and continue to be among the bestselling games of 2023. Famous IP lets you get away with a lot and a game with the premise being "getting to live your childhood fantasy" was bound to print money regardless of the quality.
