    Just classism

This is applied selectively based on zip code, you'll notice

This. If Chrissy Teigen went out for groceries in luxury sweats, she'd be #iconic

I will say, cleaning my room makes me feel much more in control and less overwhelmed by my environment. As someone who spends a lot of time in this room, especially with covid, keeping a basic amount of order among my minimal possessions is helpful. Simple stuff like not leaving dirty clothes on the floor and folding my laundry before I go to sleep gives me a level of clarity. Another way of putting it is that my room gets messy when I already feel like shit, and the longer I let it stay that way the worse it gets/makes me feel.

My guess is looking "professional" is a display of readiness/need-to-work, thus looking "unprofessional" signals an unreadiness-to-work.
Also just straight up classism, yeah

This is why I purposefully wear shit clothing to any store I have to go to. I hate this informal bourgeois dress code and do my best to look as shit as possible to get what little freedom I have in my life.

I'm either in shirt and tie for events I like or anime t-shirt and cargo shorts, because I do not care for anything in-between. fashion or function.

i legit just wear shirts that are like 15 years old and have holes in them and sweatpants most the time

if im doing something cool i wear fun dresses, which btw are also super lazy but no one talks about that

It's funny because people who will get mad about me wearing sweatpants to the store are the exact same people I want to make mad!

I have to wear my tight half ruined patch pants, partially dry rotted studded vest and falling apart motorcycle boots day in day out because I may be poor as hell but care DEEPLY about looking cool.
