The anti-communism in Europe is beyond ridiculous honestly. I had a German class yesterday and I just listed all the crimes of Western Germany in our discussion of the Berlin Wall, just so people realize the flip side of the anti-socialist coin is oppression of the colonized.
It's pretty weird here. You have a lot of conservatives that are obviously very staunchly anti communist but you also have a lot of people that remember the whole socialism thing not being half bad at all, and a lot of people still like Tito.
The propaganda is doing its thing though, even people who have good memories of yugoslavia feel the need to signal "socialism BAD" and overqualify their statements every time they talk about the good parts.
Yeah I talked to a guy from the DDR and he was like yeah it really wasn't that bad lol, and every time I meet someone from the former Yugoslavia they say it was a tragedy that it dissolved.
