Growing up in a community with something like 20% Asian population, my friends and I used to joke about the Jewish/Chinese stereotype overlap.
Recently, an old friend from high school and die-hard Republican loyalist expressed frustration at being called a pinko commie because she was Chinese. She's a Taiwanese ex-pat. Her family fled China. And a big reason she's dyed-in-the-wool Republican stems from the raw hatred her family had for the Mainland Chinese government. But now WASP Republicans she's trying to court the vote of literally cannot see past her skin tone.
On the flip side, I've seen the Israelis wed themselves so firmly to the Republican Party that it's failed to keep up with the #NeverTrump neocon ship jump to the Biden Administration. As neoconservatives and neoliberals consolidate control over the media, while the Israelis cling to the Ted Cruz wing of the GOP, I'm beginning to question whether US/Israel relations are going to endure. Anti-semitism is rampant in the GOP and Bibi isn't giving Dems much incentive to back him. We could live to see the day when Israel just kinda becomes the next South Africa.
I honestly wonder how long until we're back to the 19th-century tier of just hating everyone who isn't a white protestant.
