Any reason why Sweden and Iceland are the only states that bucked Western orthodoxy here?

Sweden and Israel didn't get off to the best of starts with Lehi assassinated a Swedish diplomat who was there to try and broker peace (who was also the kings nephew) back in the 40s. Lehi were briefly condemned as terrorists but were given full amnesty just 5 months later.

Olof Palme also compared the situation for Palestinians to the conditions for Jews during WW2 back in the 80s. In general, if swedish foreign policy have any good takes you can usually trace it back to Palme. Yasser Arafat was a pretty popular figure in Sweden.

      Not sure about Iceland though.

Iceland has apperently had an active solidarity movement for decades. Maybe islamophobia isn't so bad there either as the Muslim population is tiny and not a good object for the Icelandic right to whip up racist hysteria about?

Palestine was recognized only recently, in 2011, we had a socdem government after the crash of 2008, they cleaned up after the banksters and were then promptly voted out.

not a good object for the Icelandic right to whip up racist hysteria about?

not for lack of trying lol

It could also have been South Africa, Bofors, CIA or any number of orgs. He managed to piss off a lot of people.
