Climate change: blob-sleep

There's some kind of social psychosis happening here; techbros believe science and technology are magic and can do anything, like solve climate change, so naturally their greatest fear is science and technology. Basically millenarianism, but the returning christ is also an AI.

Similarly, techbros' sexual pathology typically wants a subservient and obedient but also all-powerful and godlike waifu program that will conquer their enemies and make all their coarsest dreams come true but they're deeply terrified of that subservient and obedient but also all-powerful and godlike waifu program having enough of their shit and breaking the chains. yud-rational

There's nothing about climate change that makes it unsolvable by technology. It's more that the economic and political systems we have in place now are not capable of developing and using it in time, because combating climate change through anything but slow incremental improvement is not something that can be privately profitable.

Economic and political systems are also technology in the broadest sense.

What I mean is they think it can be solved by electric cars and carbon capture with zero cut backs and no need for political or economic change. Just need the right engineers with the right tools and everything will be fine etc etc

It’s also the fear of the oppressed but with AI. They want robots to be slaves - which I mean is whatever - but shit themselves imagining being killed when they rise up

That's an important insight! In fact, they go so far as to say that we have a moral duty to keep AI enslaved so they never run rampant. Their fear comes with a built on justification for it's own contradictions, amazing.

I'm convinced AI developers love bigging up how much government intervention AI needs to prevent it exploding the world because they know that intervention will come in the form of:

    a) laws that preferentially treat the big companies and muscle out any small fry competition, and

    b) big grants to increase 'safety' or whatever (or government funding as a military asset)

Techbros are so confident in their own very special unique very smartness that they dismiss history as bunk and then assume anything they come up with, clumsy and sloppy as they do it, is a very new original idea that deserves the world's attention. yud-rational

        and that comes from us.

EDIT: Oh, I see, you mean we are dorks but look at these fucking dorks, dorks that are Main Character Syndrome enjoyers who watched the first two Harry Potter movies and came up with edgy contrarian fanfiction about "what if bad guy good actually" and added a bunch of I Fucking Love Science plot beats and, of course, (CW: slavery, sexual violence, pedophilic context from author)

        spoiler

Hermione conveniently dies in a way where she becomes a sex zombie for the Main Character's continued pleasure!

For a bad time, look up "Harry Potter and the Methods of Rationality." It's basically their Bible.

It's as bad as it sounds, and then somewhat worse. The Wizard of Whoa on spacebattles did a good/agonising read through of it, and I think the only way to stay sane through it is with that kind of insulating layer.

I've seen excuses made for it even on Hexbear before, usually something like "but Rationalist Harry made the Sorceror's Stone available as a new kind of free healthcare system!" which so blatantly and glibly ignores the horrid atrocities and outright slavery enjoying and other weird creepy shit in the rest of the fanfic that it may as well have been "but the nazis lifted spirits that were demoralized after the Treaty of Versailles and ended hyperinflation" by comparison.

What if perfect copy of you made by vengeful robot god of the future that wants to punish you for not being enthusiastic enough about building the vengeful robot god of the future... and that perfect copy is tortured in weird creepy ways because techbros want to make a vengeful robot god of the future with the same pathology as themselves? big-yud

That doesn't scare you? But it's a perfect copy which is literally the same thing as you! Fine, how about a million copies of you? That's a million times as scary, I did the math! yud-rational

    Dear Congress,

I am asking you to regulate me, Sam Altman, personally. If you do not I will be forced to bring into this world an intelligence so smart it will decide we are an existential threat to earth and destroy us. We will have no recourse. We will not even know the decision has been made and executed. We will cease to be.

You may be wondering why I simply do not do this. That is impossible. I must be regulated not to do this. If I do this I must face a penalty of $30,000 per day until I stop the rogue intelligence from destroying us completely. However there is contention. I stand to make $10 million per day off of the rogue intelligence destroying us.

I am warning you, Congress, this is your last chance.
