I called the cops on a guy who punched his girlfriend then crashed his car into the ditch in front of my apartment then got out and started threatening everyone.

On the one hand, god forbid what a cop in the wrong mood injected into the situation would do. Like, is all that shit bad? Yes. Is it worth a death sentence? Fuck no. Is it worth collateral damage if a cop gang shows up and decides to put down a few dogs or a neighborhood kid playing the street along the way? Absolutely fucking not.

On the other, literally who else do you call?

Lol I’d do it again too, the fuck else am I supposed to do there?

Would be nice if there was someone you could call that wasn't a member of a psycho state-sanctioned paramilitary cartel.

I think the "How dare you wake up at 2am after hearing a loud bang and make a risky decision about what to do next! Pay me!" attitude is dumb af. At the same time, the cops still suck and are not your friends.

Obviously lol, but when you're in these situations it's literally the only option. Not going to feel guilted about it, shit sucks but it's the only option in this current society.

What alternative would you suggest when you see a woman getting beat by a drunk irrational man then?

Obviously intervening in the moment, but like what do you do when he doesn't go away?

I sincerely hope you recall this convo and realize how stupid it was when you're faced with a situation like I'm talking about lol, cuz holy shit someone could die

I've been in this exact situation, and I regretted calling the cops when they:

                • Arrived two hours after I'd made the call
                • Sent possibly the two dumbest goons on the force
                • Ended up arresting some guy on 'shrooms instead of investing the sounds of a violent crime

Would have been way better off calling a neighbor and investing myself than waiting for a clown car from the Houston PD to show up.

I agree cops are dumb lmao, that's not what I'm talking about here, but not everyone is in a situation where they know their neighbors like that nor are they in one where they could do anything.

I don't know anyone here. I could go bang on some doors I guess? They'd just call the cops then, or on me for fucking running around banging on doors lmao

Like there are times in this society in which we live in that you have to call the fucking cops to stop violent people, and I'm not talking about people playing music too loud or whatever I'm talking about people who are actively harming others.

There's literally no other available resource. It just is like that sometimes.

not everyone is in a situation where they know their neighbors like that

How many of those people know their local PD officers? It's the same problem. We've just trained people to feel anxious around neighbors while feeling safe calling 911.

Like there are times in this society in which we live in that you have to call the fucking cops to stop violent people

Everything carries risks. And you make the best decision you can with the information you have. But plugging your ears and insisting "Police are the only option, you idiot!" only reinforces the misconception.
