    Where does this fetishization come from?

    Orientalism I'd imagine, the enduring trope that asian women are model wives and whatnot. I'm sure this shit is reinforced by the media they consume like anime.

        Not just anime, lots of movies and shows out there have reinforced the negative stereotype but yeah I'd imagine for younger people it was anime/video games.

        somewhere in the mid 90s anime companies decided to mass-market to whitesville.

        If you look at animes from the early 90s and before, they mostly had black hair, or coded Japanese looks (blue hair, dark brown hair, often tan skin etc)
