    They’re just people with frustrations in other parts of their lives. They can’t solve these problems, so anger-posting on the internet is a kind of therapy for them.

      Honestly it describes US political engagement in general, and describes literally all of online politics. Everybody is basically impotent to affect the actual conditions of their society on a meaningful scale, so they're pissed off that more people don't agree with them, even if their beliefs are basically winning right now as the status quo, because they don't see that dominance reflected in people's actual beliefs and attitudes.

      On top of that, I think even the neolibs can tell that all this shit is headed for a shake-up, and that means that the dominance of their ideology doesn't feel as secure as they would like.
