Btw this so from post-Peru election, Fujimori supporters cry "fraud" and say they won't accept a Pedro Castillo presidency. Sauce here: https://twitter.com/kawsachunnews/status/1403140557145247745?s=21 Posting on /c/news since the thread is worth a read to get the contexts.

How does any of this make it OK for Peruvian fascists to wear "better dead than red" t-shirts?

The "better dead than red part" is the problem, not that it's in english.

A big part of the point of peaceful demonstrations is to attract support and positive media coverage. English signs help attract international support and positive international media coverage.

Writing a sign in english probably isn't something an individual going to a protest on their own is going to do, but it is something organisations organising or participating in protests often do to help push their own narrative in international media, and trying to convince people it's inherently delegitimizing is extremely harmful.

Yeah, those "Save us President Trump" signs in Hong Kong sure were positive.

No shit, things reactionaries do are bad, news at 11.

Protest signs, and english protest signs, are a tool, like, for instance, guns.

You can point to a billion horrible things reactionaries have done with guns.

That in no way means a leftist holding a gun is inherently reactionary, delegitimizing or untrustworthy.

It doesn’t? That clearly wasn’t the point they were making?
