Btw this so from post-Peru election, Fujimori supporters cry "fraud" and say they won't accept a Pedro Castillo presidency. Sauce here: https://twitter.com/kawsachunnews/status/1403140557145247745?s=21 Posting on /c/news since the thread is worth a read to get the contexts.

You think fleeing from Communism makes Big Line Go Up? How many recessions do you think the capitalists will get before the end of this decade?

Probably the same reason I see a lot of "eat the rich" and similar stickers around my city even tho I live in Poland.

English is basically an universal language now, I don't think you need to overthink it.

Way more right wing movements use english than left wing.

But according to Adam Curtis and Dugin’s playbook from Russia, funding both sides can be useful. Perhaps that’s the deal in a fascist-run Poland, to keep those in power in check. But in most of the world it is the right wing that is connected to and funded by the US and global capitalist interests.

English is basically an universal language now

It's a business language. So if you're doing a lot of international trade and travel, it's incredibly useful.

But if you're trying to rally support for your cause in a country that is overwhelmingly Spanish speaking... ? It's like doing a publicity stunt in Mandurian from French Quebec.

Why are there American right-wingers who love Evola or talk about being "Volkish"? It's classic internationalism.

Comparing English to Mandarin, it just doesn't work. Not in the modern era. English is spoken as a 2nd language by people basically anywhere on earth, by people of basally every ideology, every race, nearly every ethnicity.

this website says that English is a mandatory subject in the school systems of 142 countries (Notice that Peru is one of them), and is a possible elective subject in 41.

A message written in Mandarin is basically a message that is only for Chinese people. A message in English is a message for nearly everyone

Well I do want to put on my nerd hat and claim these two are different phenomenons. This is actually closer to a Peru ver. Alt-right/Q situation, which means they are probably more influenced by American right-wingers via online interactions than any sector of the Peruvian society (even the conservative one).

This guy’s thread explains the situation better than my post. You could ignore my arguments and read the thread here: https://twitter.com/osamabishounen/status/1403148258407370752?s=21

They're sending a message to the source of income they need to fund their sabotage and colour revolution activities. You don't get jack shit without demonstrating you can get bodies to do things first.

In future we'll be putting our signs in both English and Chinese as we ask them to fund our various orgs.

It's fairly common for protesters in many countries to carry English language signs. English is the global lingua franca, more widely spoken than any other language ever, and anyone who wants their message to be seen or heard by people in other countries might use English.

The "better dead than red part" is the problem, not that it's in english.

A big part of the point of peaceful demonstrations is to attract support and positive media coverage. English signs help attract international support and positive international media coverage.

Writing a sign in english probably isn't something an individual going to a protest on their own is going to do, but it is something organisations organising or participating in protests often do to help push their own narrative in international media, and trying to convince people it's inherently delegitimizing is extremely harmful.

No shit, things reactionaries do are bad, news at 11.

Protest signs, and english protest signs, are a tool, like, for instance, guns.

You can point to a billion horrible things reactionaries have done with guns.

That in no way means a leftist holding a gun is inherently reactionary, delegitimizing or untrustworthy.

It's a thing that is done all over the world by both left and right. BTW, do not make the mistake of assuming that a sign written in English is necessarily directed at Native English speakers in America/UK/etc. English is spoken as a 2nd language by people all over the world and they use it as an auxiliary language to talk to each other as well.
