For this Sunday Slop Night, first up is Macario (1960), a Mexican ghost story / fairy tale about a man who meets three spirits on the Day of the Dead, one of whom is Death, who gives him water that acts as a magical cure-all. Surely this won’t backfire in any way. This film is almost universally considered the magnum opus of director Roberto Galvadon, and one of the best Mexican films of all time, so we’ll give it a shot. After that is Nobody Knows (2004), a Japanese family drama about a preteen boy who has to take care of his family by himself after his mom suddenly disappears. Where the hell did she go?! Director is Hirokazu Koreeda, who also did Shoplifters (2018), which we previously watched. The film is currently ranked #111 on Letterboxd’s Top 250 films of all time, which is a good enough endorsement for me. Let’s watch.
We’ll start at 9PM EST on Hextube, right here: https://live.hexbear.net/c/movies
