Judas and the Black Messiah btw
It's cool to see a movie about black power that doesn't try to water down its radical character
The Antifada had a former Black Panther on who said they actually libbed the movie up
Do you remember what the episode number/title was or the name of the former BP? My Googlefoo isnt strong enough :xinternet:
EDIT: nvm i think I found it: https://fans.fm/p/ywOO3wG
Yeah I saw an interview with the director I think where they very candidly talked about how difficult it was to get it made right and preserve the revolutionary messaging.
Wow can't believe a movie about the BPP quotes Mao Zedong, almost like they were maoists or something lol
To be fair, the producers could have reduced the whole thing to:
The Black Panthers went to a peaceful civil rights march and then racism was over :) Remember that violence is always bad!
Refer to ElGosso's comment in this thread for a different view, but as someone that didn't know all about Fred Hampton, I liked it. The movie showed what working class solidarity could do and it at least exposed the feds for what they did. Here's hoping some libs watching get something out of it. I'd recommend it.
Highly recommend both for its leftist content as well as just as a movie.
I'ma be honest, this is one of my favorite movies of all time. I've seen it four times and it's just good. Fred Hampton is the actual embodiment of who I want to strive to live like, and his story tells me what a well organized left can achieve, and how we can serve our neighborhoods.
I downloaded this but I can’t watch it because I know how it ends and I love Fred Hampton. Fuckkkk
I just watched another movie that literally begins with a quote from Mao: Sergio Leone’s Duck, You Sucker It’s expiring from the Criterion Channel this month for anyone who has it. Pretty interesting/fun action flick about to guys getting caught up in the Mexican Revolution. Worth checking out.
