How are people getting their slop?

People were posting about looking into setting up a system, but what happened to shammu might have put them off maybe.

The comics people, those people, have weekly torrents containing all the week's releases, since prehistoric times. Just download the files you want from the weekly torrent. Average comic filesize is in the same ballpark as average pod mp3 filesize.

Why not us?

Comic are something people hold archives of while most podcasts are topical and disposable so you want them in an rss feed.

Some torrents of podcasts with evergreen episodes like Blowback would be worth the trouble.

You are clearly not a young-earth creationist of the Pod Damn America church

Almost all of the weekly comic torrents are pretty ephemeral, they're not seeded after a couple of weeks. It is possible to get reseeds tho.

The point is that the weekly torrent delivery system would be ideal for pods - a very active torrent (with 20 70MB files) for about a week or so, that then dies off naturally after a few days when the next comes along. Torrent clients can automate download.

Totally agree some evergreen pods are worth the trouble. There's a 10GB torrent of past Radio War Nerd episodes out there.

it's not only the seeding but the consumption habit. Few people are manually downloading individual episodes as files and opening them in a media player, the convenience of an rss podcast app is part of the experience of listing to topical podcasts. I don't have any real objection to making a torrent mind you, I just think this is why it hasn't been done already.

But I'm talking about the paywalled episodes. A torrent is a lot better than no slop.

I'm drifting aimlessly through the void since the feeds are gone from here.

After shammu's feeds went offline there were a couple of people talking about building some kind of successor, hopefully that's still happening

yeah, saw those posts. People might be wary of getting DRMed like shammu maybe did.

Every other kind of file is available freely, why the fuck are podcast mp3s not?

What is the name of the soulseek guy? I've been trying to find the Antifada bonus episodes to no avail. Setting up weekly torrents sounds like a good idea to me, we should do it.

      podking.

haven't seen them online recently on there. they were probably a bit overwhelmed with traffic when someone posted their name on here lol.

      Yeah, we should do it.

a matrix room maybe, to upload the files to, then different people from the room could start seeding the torrent every week from public wifi or tor or whatever.

edit: could use I2P or DC++ if torrent protocol is too traceable. The important thing is to get a "podpack" torrent of the week's slop into a container and get it out there.

if you go to the users tab and right click an offline user, there's a selection for "alert when user goes online"
