The vast majority of Soviet gulag prisoners were given draconian 5-10 year sentences for relatively minor crimes like petty theft :bugs-stalin:

Could you even imagine getting that many years in prison for a relatively minor offense? Good thing we live in a democracy like America :stalin-smokin:

Just a few weeks ago the Trillbillies were talking about a guy in their town who was a given a FIFTY year sentence for assaulting a homeless man. Didn't kill him, just beat him up. I mean fuck you for assaulting the homeless but 50 years is insane.

Damn, it's not like the US has ever done that. No sir! Black people and other POC are not given arbitrarily long prison sentences for dumb shit! No sir!

Honestly, the hypocrisy of the West is what is hurting them at this moment. The world is tired of their centuries of bullshit and is openly celebrating someone taking them down.

Yes, the Uyghurs are suffering and I don't think they should. But the West's singleminded obsession with Uyghurs to the exclusion of everyone else (who they themselves are directly hurting) makes it clear that the West has some underlying geopolitical motivations.

I have no evidence, for either side of the debate, but you're right to be skeptical, because it's either not happening, heavily exaggerated in US media, or it's stepping stone to another "WMDs in Iraq!" scenario.

Now imagine if you lived in a country where people didn't speak English, but their ӺФӁ ЛЄЩЅ regularly, and selectively, translated headlines from our Fox News. The audience of their ӺФӁ ЛЄЩЅ would probably believe a lot of insane lies. They'd probably think several insignificant events are massive coast to coast problems.

      Uyghurs are suffering

Do they ? Does the average Uyghur have it noticably worse than the average Han or ethnic Tibetian or Mongolian in a similarly rural and economicaly-infastructualy unintergrated region in China ? The latter has been a huge issue for Xinjiang and for Chinese uneven development and spawned the seperatism in the first place but blanket and specific "Uyghurs are suffering" statements seem pretty sus

From the non-Zenz evidence I've seen that didn’t seem like BS, it does seem like China had an anti-Islamic terrorism program that does result in muslim minorities getting detained for rather arbitrary reasons with no clear date of release, which I’d say is not good.

Also kinda sucks that a lot of the Muslims in eastern China are members of ethnic groups that straddle borders with other countries and China has weirdly strict immigration laws (something even most of the really hardcore China stans admit is true) meaning members of extended families have difficulty staying in touch, traveling to visit or immigrating.

Nothing going on there is a fucking genocide though, at worst it’s an excessively heavy handed counter terrorism program.

Rebecca Wright mindlessly repeats Adrian Zenz and all you have to go on is to trust her methods, particularly getting sources and their stories.

This characterizes basically every Western journalist who has reported on Xinjiang.
