    From a Twitter post:

when my grandfather died, we held a bonfire for a few days. The elders said it was to help guide his spirit in the afterlife.

I think this is a wonderful bonfire for all the little ones lost. I hope their spirits are guided by these flames. I think we should have more.

Varg Vikernes burned down a stave church. Stave churches are unique as they were traditionally built without any nails, only with interlocking woodwork. Church arsonists are partially responsible for there being only 28 originals of them left in the world out of an estimated 1000 built from 1150 to 1350. Torching medieval historical buildings is not to be made light of. Also Varg most possibly murdered his band mate, so maybe don't go praising the guy. :brow:

I do, they represent two sides of one person. One side is an arsonist fighting for liberation from their colonialist oppressors, compared to a Norwegian arsonist and murderer. The meme says they are different yet one in the same within the person who hypothetically committed the burning pictured above. I. E Varg Vikernes is the same as a Native American fighting for freedom :debate-me-debate-me:

one is violent because everything was taken from him

one is violent despite everything being given to him

both threaten the establishment, but are opposite

Makes me sad to see a historic church burn.

But also maybe the Catholic Church in Canada shouldn't fuck around if they don't want to find out. Hope it's some first nations comrade getting some justice in and not just some anti-papist chud.

A historic church in the sense of a historic statue. If that history is poison, burning its legacy is a reclamation of it by its victims. The history becomes alive again instead of it just being paedophiles collecting tithes on the graves of their victims with a state-packaged narrative of that church's role in Canadian society.

Don't get me wrong, I love a good European cathedral for the architecture. Every shiny thing in them was stolen and if liberated by hand or fire I'd celebrate it all the same.

Assuming its victims burn it. In which case, yeah, sad for the people who've just had their house of worship torn down but ultimately a just act.

Not putting it past some white prot thinking they get a free pass to shit on Catholics just because the Canadian Church is several centuries overdue for being purged back to a clean slate.

            The Troubles go West.

Christianity would be way more chill if the doctrinal wars were between Diggers, LibTheos, and Quakers.

Hus was cool and based. Might quibble with his fondness for Wycliff but nothing he says is heretical.

Also, they never left. Moravian Church is still kicking strong. And the Methodists of course take a lot from Hus.

Edit: For the theology nerds Here is a great article on Hus as a precursor the Vatican II reforms from a Left Wing Catholic perspective

Unitarian Universalists versus Unitarian Universalists. Like a pokemon battle where you throw all the balls at once.

UU doctrinal battles are just arguments about whether or not the slogan "defund the police" is divisive.

      not just some anti-papist chud.

Given that these arsons started after the discovery of 700 indigenous children's bodies at a residential school, I'd say it's probably a first nations person.

Don't forget the arson of Mikmaaq fish storages, for which nobody was punished, in the long-long-ago times of December 2020.

It's just ancient history now, but so unfortunate that happened. But it's in the past now! Moving on...

The catholic church faces 1/1000th of the retribution it deserves and people lose their god damn minds.
