    It was the right move because Meigs hadn't flown commercial flights since the 80s pretty much and was mostly being used by private pilots and parties by 2003. Ends pointless pollution, and probably didn't affect 99% of Chicagoans. Effect on traffic is negligible.

    The move really illuminated just how much power Daley had, and how much power mayors in Chicago generally have. Daley big dicked the FAA and others by making the field unusable literally overnight (which stranded en route flights lmao) and paid a paltry 33k fine for it.

    Daley was an asshole and his Machine™️ set the city back in many ways but goddamn did he love himself some parks, and parks are what the city got.
