Imagine thinking that walking to the airport is environmentally conscious.
The duck pond is just for people in condos! There is no other way for anyone to enjoy the duck pond!
That whole post sounds like an incoherent jumble of talking points that person has heard (or, worse, sought out) over the years.
Oh God, it just occurred to me that there are probably multiple John Kass columns about this!
:le-pol-face: <— this is the guy telling you to “shut your fucking pie hole”
weird critique going on here, maybe a PMC aviation or petit bourgeois reactionary?
The affinity for this airport is because it was the default starting location in older versions of Microsoft Flight Simulator.
General aviation is incredibly dangerous; it's not something that should be promoted among the general public, and especially not among poor people.
It's also incredibly bougie since planes are expensive. Why the fuck this person thinks it's "for the general public" is beyond me.
It was the right move because Meigs hadn't flown commercial flights since the 80s pretty much and was mostly being used by private pilots and parties by 2003. Ends pointless pollution, and probably didn't affect 99% of Chicagoans. Effect on traffic is negligible.
The move really illuminated just how much power Daley had, and how much power mayors in Chicago generally have. Daley big dicked the FAA and others by making the field unusable literally overnight (which stranded en route flights lmao) and paid a paltry 33k fine for it.
Daley was an asshole and his Machine™️ set the city back in many ways but goddamn did he love himself some parks, and parks are what the city got.
Lmao the person they responded to just said one thing and they felt the need to type up a whole ass novel and tell the other person to go back into the basement. They should go to the duck pond and touch the grass there.
