This one's for the ones who haven't seeked out a party or organization to join. I'm just curious what's stopping you? We're at the tail-end of a global pandemic and a deepening crisis within capitalism, and the sooner you develop the organizational skills necessary to navigate the coming years the better off you'll be to agitate for the working class, for the dispossessed etc.

This post isn't meant as an attack, just thought it'd be good to start a conversation on the matter. Perhaps there are things I haven't contemplated and I'd like to shine a light on my blind spots.

(p.s. shouldn't this comm be called askhexbear? idk)

Was part of the DSA in my city for a while, helped someone get elected and got quickly disillusioned when it was apparent that many people, including this elected official, within the org were just careerists. Dipped out and now I'm just mostly cynical about the big picture stuff. That's not to say I'm spreading that cynicism at every turn, but I don't believe any major shift in the US is going to take place quickly enough, and even if it does, it probably won't take place in the form we're all hoping for due to the impending climate crisis.

That being said, I do help out with mutual aid and violence prevention groups here and there because I still have contacts with some good people. I don't give a fuck what flavor of leftist you are but if you dump on micro level stuff because it doesn't change the macro, you can go fuck yourself. Not everything needs to be performative, and even if you can make somewhat of a difference for one person out of hundreds, it's worth it.
