Maybe even major cities in general. Man I can barely imagine keeping my small dog in a small apartment and in a densely populated area. Picturing taking an elevator ride down 17 storeys or something just so he could pee. Like with small pets it's more viable, but big dogs in a small space seems almost cruel.

One of my neighbour's has a very large yard dog. Like he's free to roam around, which is good, but it's like a hunting dog and they never walk him or idk take him to an open are where he can play fetch at a reasonable distance. I mean I get paranoid with off leash dogs at parks, especially if they're this dog's size, but this is more an argument against getting a dog bred to run long distances.

You may own any sized dog out in the country. Other than that, fuck off with dogs that are taller than the average person's knee. Nobody needs that shit on the cramped ass little narrow corridors that pedestrians are allowed to walk on (sidewalks) or harassing people at parks and beaches.

Lol no big dog rule is definitely a selling point to me. I like dogs generally, but I now have a phobia of big breeds and not having them literally everywhere when I'm outside sounds nice :comfy:

Pits have been banned for years here in Norway. I wonder if there are any articles in US media calling Norway "authoritarian" because of that.

Honestly I'm going to start googling increasingly more reasonable sounding policies and see if western media ever calls them anything but "authoritarian".

Edit: behind Beijing's authoritarian green-yellow-red light system used to determine right of away at an intersection.

The Chinese government did an awareness campaign about nutrition a while back and they called it an authoritarian power grab.

Come to think of it, every lib I know who was in school during the Obama pres blames her for their lunches being bad. I try to explain to them that school lunches were shit before 2008 too, but they don't listen.

Somewhere around 2004, once a week school lunch was a slice of soggy bread with tomato sauce and cheese on top and a cosmic brownie. That was the lunch we all looked forward to.

I get buttmad about pitbull bans cause it's province by province here whether they're banned or not so people have had their dogs taken travelling through the wrong place and getting caught by the wrong cop. They're generally very sweet dogs

Yeah, the bans aren't based on anything besides some people think they "look scary". But a Rottweiler, which if you ask me looks much more menacing (and very often are), or a Rhodesian Ridgeback the size of a small horse is somehow ok. It's nonsense.

Ahh, nice. My landlord doesn't allow pets unfortunately, which sucks. But the rent is low and he never bothers me so there's that.

I have a half Bengal kitty named Darby Crash as well. Found out recently the landlord is selling the place so we're most likely gonna have to move. Which fucking sucks cause it's about a third of what rent normally is here and pretty much exactly what the three of us who don't work can afford

Thanks. Anyone that buys it will have to tear it down and start again to do anything. It's borderline illegal to live here. So we're for sure gonna be renovicted. Fucking sucks cause it's one of the last affordable places to live. Minimum rent exists but it's fucking $1400 a month. Three of us pay $1500 for a big three bedroom with an extended living room that is a jam space right now. It's a shitty situation.

    Aww yeah struggle sesh.

    My hot take:

    • Competent, nice owners of pitbulls raise nice doggies.

    • Pitbulls can do a ton of damage compared to some smaller dogs due to their strength and size.

    • Some smaller dogs like terriers seem to pick fights they can't win and get other dogs in trouble.

    • Other large dogs are just as strong as pitbulls and anti-pitball laws are a double standard. A golden retriever can do serious damage but everyone just thinks, "happy puppy".

    • Pitbulls are sought after by dogfighters.

Not a fan of breed-based laws generally but I could understand it as a proxy for going after dogfights or something.

Tell me how wrong I am lol I've thought about this for all of ten minutes.

I feel like it's a thing where pitbulls have a tendency to be more aggressive (same as terriers) but can do more harm. That said, that tendency isn't something that can't be overcome by training. Essentially I think more commonly aggressive breeds, like pitbulls and terriers should require some amount of training to be kept. That way there's just less conflict, and if anyone complains it's just telling on themselves that they were never going to train it anyway.

unfortunately 90% of dog owners have no idea how to properly socialize an animal. right now the minimum standard is "don't abuse it too bad."

I don't really agree on a ban on specific breeds, but I think banning large dogs is good from a humane angle - having a big dog in an apartment is pretty close to animal abuse.
